J. Treadwell “Tread” Josey Partner

As a partner for more than 10 years with Buist Byars & Taylor, Tread Josey has managed the residential real estate practice in the firm’s Mt. Pleasant office and now primarily focuses on maintaining and developing business relationships.  He is extremely personable and professional in his dealings with clients, real estate agents, lenders, and others, and is committed to ensuring that each and every closing and transaction runs as smoothly as possible.

With years of experience, Tread is able to navigate through deals of various types, from closings on first homes to refinances to large, complicated property sales and purchases.  He also handles foreclosure mitigation and short sale negotiations.   In addition, he works in the commercial real estate realm on some matters, providing clients with valuable insight on specific legal issues, particularly leasing.

A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Tread graduated from Clemson University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in history and earned a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School in 2000.  Prior to joining Buist Byars & Taylor, Tread practiced as an associate in the Atlanta, Georgia, area with Burr & Forman LLP and McCalla Raymer Padrick Cobb Nichols & Clark LLC. He was also the principal of Josey & Associates LLC.

Tread is an avid golfer, and enjoys hitting the links whenever his schedule allows. His other interests include travel and Clemson sports, particularly football, and he often attends games.  He lives in the West Ashley area of Charleston with his wife, Britton, and their two children.
